There is always a chance for getting a menu. The whole desktop system is based on Menu than dash. It is the default methode to find and launch progrmmes since computer GUI. Now a days everybody is switching to dash and overlay system like gnome shell dash, ubuntu dash etc… But there is still lot of significance for a programme menu
In ubuntu 11.10 we will not get an application menu. If you have a small indicator which launches the application menu then you can easly start a programme without going to the dash searching it etc..
Here is a solution to add the Classing gnome applicaiton menu into Ubuntu 11.10

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:diesch/testing
2. Update the repository system
sudo apt-get update
3. Install the menu indicator
sudo apt-get install classicmenu-indicator
4. Reboot – After installation just reboot the system. You will get an application menu in ubuntu 11.10 Unity desktop
Cardapio Menu in Ubuntu 11.10
Cardapio is a main menu alternative with some cool features: it comes with Zeitgeist integration, includes plugins for performing inline searches of Files (via Tracker), Software Center, Google, Wikipedia, and much more.
To use the launcher, firstly install Cardapio:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cardapio-team/unstable sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cardapio
There is a unity launcher for cardapio. So you can drag that just into unity sidebar.
Just download the Cardapio launcher from HERE, extract it and copy the file to ~/.local/share/applications/
(important: if you don’t place it here, it will disappear once you restart your computer).
“.local” is a hidden folder in your home directory so press CTRL + H to see it. Then drag the file to the Unity Launcher.
These are the cool menu solutions in Ubuntu 11.10 to make a quick application launch.
